Vikings in the Midlands – 10 week history course
January 12 @ 9:30 am - 11:00 am
£15.00Do you love history? Are you fascinated by the Viking Age? Or maybe you’re just looking to learn something new in 2026!
This exploratory and fun history course delves into the thrilling history of the Viking Great Army. We will focus on their famous winter camp in Repton, as well as who the Vikings were, what they believed and why they invaded the Midlands kingdom of Mercia in the mid 800s.
Along the way, you’ll be introduced to a range of evidence we have about the Viking Age and our own local connections to it, including archaeology, myth and DNA.
Each week will start with a lecture on a different topic. Then, during and after a tea break, questions, discussions and wild tangents are all encouraged!
Aimed at all levels of knowledge – there is something for everyone.
The course is written and delivered by historian and public speaker Dr Charlotte Ball, who has her PhD in Early Medieval art and iconography from the University of Leicester.
