20th Anniversary Celebrations
May 18 @ 11:00 am - May 19 @ 5:00 pm
Over the weekend we will be celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the museum.
Come along and learn more about the development of the museum.
We have an exhibition created by Art Students at South Staffordshire College, Lichfield Campus. They have produced a creative response to the history of the museum and Darwin, to celebrate 20th Anniversary. They have been working on the project since November last year and have developed their ideas through independent research including using the resources of the library, tours of the house, talking our volunteers and staff and talking part in art workshops with local artist Hannah Golding. Their work ranges from floral paper sculptures, inspired by the herb garden, to embroidery samplers addressing the lack of women’s presence in the museum interpretation, to describe just a few. It has been funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and We Love Lichfield (if you want to add this in). This is the beginning of 13 month project which enable Young People from the college to engage with the heritage of the museum and share their their thoughts and experiences of their learning through exhibitions and other mediums. It is a really exciting time for the both parties.
See the display of beautiful automaton fairies in the garden (or the house if the weather is poor). Fairy trail in the garden for children.
Between 11.30 and 2pm on Saturday you can join the Lichfield Regency Dancers in some Georgian dancing and we have dressing up outfits for you to try as well.
On Sunday we have our pop up Georgian tea room 11am to 3pm, together with tours available of the house, garden and cellar.
There will be plenty for all the family to see and do.
Free entry, with a small charge for some activities.
