Kids & Families

According to Dr Erasmus Darwin:

Children shouldn’t sit and write for too long at a time – it is unhealthy to sit in the same position for too long. The same goes for needlework and drawing

And he would know as he had a total of 14 children!

Whether it’s dressing up in Georgian costumes, stepping back in time with old-fashioned games, looking for Erasmouse on our trail or even sitting in a sedan chair as though you’re being transported through the streets of 18th Century Lichfield, there is plenty to keep kids and families busy at Erasmus Darwin House.

Our exhibition rooms are packed with interactive audio-visual and touchscreen displays, a silhouette machine and even a microscope for closer examination of nature.

If you are visiting with children you’ll be pleased to know that all floors are accessible by lift, we have toilet and nappy changing facilities on site as well as space to leave pushchairs.

We are currently planning our summer season of activities in partnership with the Galapagos Conservation Trust. Plans are afoot to display a life-size tortoise, host a plethora of indoor/outdoor trails along with a special exhibition on the Galapagos tortoise, one of the world’s longest living reptiles.

*Did you know? Charles Darwin, Erasmus’ grandson, brought back 3 Galapagos tortoises to England from his Beagle voyage*

And from August we will be taking bookings for 2017/2018’s Dr D’s Science workshops.

These are hands-on, science-based workshops for 7-11 year olds. Kids meet genuine scientists and collect stamps to win a prize.
